Covers cable constructions and tests for indoor, outdoor, aerial (incl. ADSS/OPGW) and duct cables: tensile, crush, impact, bend, temperature cycling and water penetration performance.
Safety of laser products / optical fibre communication systems

50/125 µm multimode graded-index fibre for access
Specifies graded-index multimode fibre for the 850/1300 nm regions used in short-reach access and premises networks.
Characteristics of single-mode optical fibre and cable
The world's most deployed fibre. Defines standard single-mode fibre (SSMF) attributes: mode field diameter, cut-off wavelength, attenuation and dispersion limits for the 1310/1550 nm windows. G.652.D adds low water peak for full-spectrum use.
Non-zero dispersion-shifted single-mode fibre
NZDSF keeps a small, controlled amount of chromatic dispersion in the C-band to suppress non-linear effects in DWDM long-haul systems.
Bend-loss insensitive single-mode fibre for access networks
Defines bend-insensitive fibres (A1/A2/B2/B3) able to withstand radii down to 10, 7.5 and 5 mm — essential for FTTH drops, in-building wiring and compact closures.

Spectral grids for WDM (DWDM / CWDM)
G.694.1 defines the DWDM frequency grid (100/50/25/12.5 GHz and flex-grid); G.694.2 defines the 18-channel CWDM wavelength grid from 1271 to 1611 nm with 20 nm spacing.
10-Gigabit-capable symmetric PON (XGS-PON)
Symmetric ~10 Gbps PON at 1577/1270 nm, designed to coexist with GPON on the same ODN — today's mainstream FTTH upgrade path.

Defines GPON: 2.488 Gbps downstream / 1.244 Gbps upstream, 1490/1310 nm wavelengths, ODN classes (e.g., B+ 28 dB), TDMA upstream and management (OMCI).
